Economics Resources

A starting point for econ research.

Kenyon's one-stop search tool, K·Search, is a great place tool to use if you have a particular author or title to search for; it's also a good place to start a general search for scholarly and peer-reviewed materials.

To the left of your results list, you'll see options for filtering your results:

  • Scholarly & Peer-Reviewed
  • Content Type (e.g., Journal Article or Book)
  • Academic Discipline
  • Publication Date

Library Catalog Search Options

CONSORT is a catalog of items available in the Kenyon, Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, and Wooster libraries.

OhioLINK is a network of 90+ libraries in Ohio, most of which are at academic institutions.

WorldCat links out to library catalogs across the globe, and Kenyon College affiliates can request most WorldCat items through Interlibrary Loan.

The library catalog

The CONSORT catalog can be used to locate books, video/sound recordings, and more available in the Kenyon, Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, and Wooster libraries. You can also search the OhioLINK Central Catalog for the holdings of 90+ libraries throughout Ohio. Students/faculty/staff at Kenyon College can borrow books directly from either CONSORT or OhioLINK. Wait times for requested materials are typically:

  • For CONSORT requests: 3 to 4 working days
  • For OhioLINK requests: 5 to 7 working days

Keyword searching

Authors and titles

For a specific author or title, I prefer to conduct keyword searches based on the author's last name, a word from the title, or both. For example, if I want to know if a copy of Principles of Microeconomics by N. Gregory Mankiw is in CONSORT I would do a keyword search (the default search in CONSORT) for the following: microeconomics mankiw

If no CONSORT copy is available (e.g., checked out, missing, on reserve, or if nothing comes up) I would next check OhioLINK using the same search by clicking the red 'Search OhioLINK' button at the top of the page. This link will take you to the resulting OhioLINK search results: microeconomics mankiw

General subjects

CONSORT and OhioLINK use a very specifically constructed vocabulary for describing subjects of items called the Library of Congress Subject Headings. Unless you know the precise terms to use, searching by subject heading can be difficult! I will usually search for a general subject first using the (default) keyword search in the catalog. You can then find an item that's on the correct topic and look at its subject headings to figure out what you might be able to use.

Watch your spelling

Be aware! If you decide to do author, title, or subject heading searches in the CONSORT or OhioLINK catalog, you have to spell the author's name correctly or enter the title/subject heading exactly as written. Referring back to the example above, a title search for Principles in Microeconomics will turn 0 results because the correct title is Principles of Microeconomics, and an author search for "Manckiw" (inserting a C) will not bring up any authors.
