Meeting Anti-Racism Initiative

2.  Questions to Consider to Continue our Anti-Racist Work at Kenyon  (Generated at the workshop by the whole group) and suggestions (attached)

 

3. Presentation by individual groups:

 

The Transnational Collective:

 

1.      Making MLK Day a day of service with support from the institution (Could this be brought to the faculty, perhaps at general forum?) (Already in progress)

2.      Pushing the administration for an endowed position of multicultural affairs to be a termed position for a faculty member and an honor to hold

3.      Making the Mellon Grant on teaching, and therefore the curriculum, respond to diversity (for example, first-year seminar that incorporates gender, race, and class; first-year experience at orientation; general education requirements; etc.)

4.      Other initiatives to gain visibility on campus:

a.       Extend the anti-racism workshop progress to a community forum;

b.      Provoke a campus-wide conversation by posting student quotes about racist statements made on campus and ask the question, “Is this campus racist?” or perhaps “How do you recognize racism?” 

c.       Do an event of  “speaking out”? This could also include wearing t-shirts with different quotes and logos (following the model of the Clothesline Project, http://www.clotheslineproject.org/) (Sarah Heidt)

 

4. Setting up an action plan: future meetings, DAC mini-retreat, division of responsibilities, etc.
